The Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus conducts a disaster drill every spring for second-year students of the Faculty of Pharmacy.
Students of the Faculty of Pharmacy attend the Hiyoshi Campus in their first year and the Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus from their second year onward. Since the Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus houses a large amount of experimental equipment and chemicals, it is extremely important for second-year students, who are new to the campus, to learn how to respond in an emergency.
This year, a disaster drill was held on Thursday, April 28, with approximately 200 second-year students participating. After the second period class (from 12:15 p.m.), staff members explained the outline of the drill to the students in the lecture rooms and also distributed the "Keio University Disaster and Emergency Pocket Guide." Following this, assuming a fire had broken out due to an earthquake, the students practiced evacuating outside the school building, following in-house announcements and guidance while confirming the evacuation routes.
Concurrently with the student evacuation drill, initial firefighting and safety protection drills were also conducted, led by staff members appointed to the private fire brigade. In the afternoon, a fire extinguisher training session was held, with the participation of about 30 faculty and staff members.
At the Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus, we are re-evaluating our fire prevention plan based on the results of the drill to ensure the safety of our students, faculty, and staff.
