Keio University

Features of the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences

A Center for Pharmaceutical Education Where Science and Practice Converge

We combine Keio’s “spirit of jitsugaku (science)” with the strengths of a comprehensive university. Through the Faculty of Pharmacy’s six-year Department of Pharmacy for training pharmacists and four-year Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences for nurturing researchers as well as the graduate school’s two Majors (Major in Pharmacy and Major in Pharmaceutical Sciences), we cultivate professionals capable of excelling in wide-ranging fields, including clinical practice, drug discovery and environmental science. We have put a practical learning environment that exposes students to the essence of research in place.

Three Standard Requirements for Pioneering Future Pharmacy

1. Healthcare Professionals

We cultivate pharmacists who have a good grounding in science, and, being aware of their role as healthcare professionals, exhibit high clinical competence. Having the University Hospital’s Department of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Pharmacy’s University Community Pharmacy is a significant strength for Keio University in the training of pharmacists. The Director of the hospital’s Department of Pharmacy and the Director of the University Community Pharmacy serve concurrently as faculty members of the Faculty of Pharmacy and pharmacists employed there are involved in the educational activities of the Faculty of Pharmacy. The Faculty of Pharmacy conducts immersive practical training utilizing these facilities. Furthermore, maintaining close contact between faculty members and students and healthcare settings enables education that immediately reflects the latest developments in advanced pharmacotherapy and community healthcare.

Renowned for excellence in pharmaceutical education, our faculty drives innovation through strategic external partnerships. A key highlight is our involvement in the Training Program for Multidisciplinary Professionals to Lead Next-Generation Cancer Care, also known as the Gan-pro project.

2. Global Persons

We cultivate global professionals who tackle healthcare challenges that are difficult to resolve only with the resources of their own country, approaching them from an international perspective. To cultivate individuals capable of being leaders in Japanese pharmacy with an international perspective, we provide numerous overseas training and internship programs.

3. Scientists

We cultivate scientists with high levels of expertise across a broad range of fields, including drug discovery, clinical development and environmental and life sciences We place emphasis on practical learning and research so that all students, equipped with the foundational knowledge of scientists, can identify challenges in healthcare settings and society and creatively resolve them.
