Summary
Structural biochemistry deals with three-dimensional structures of biological macromolecules. Recent technological development has paved the way for the structural analysis of macromolecules that has been difficult using conventional methods, and we are now reaching at the level where structural information of proteins could be utilized for personalized medicine, for example. Structural biochemistry is thus becoming more important to understand life phenomena at the atomic level. In order to promote and revitalize structural biochemistry research at Keio University, we have established a Research Center on Structural Biochemistry for Life by forming an interdisciplinary team of faculty members from several departments including medicine, pharmacy, and science & engineering.
