Center Overview

To work with industry to create an environment where faculty and Keio students can use AI and programming as essential tools for academic research and industry-academia collaboration, regardless of their field in the humanities or sciences, and to research how to use them. Based on the idea that young people with flexible mindsets are more adept at using AI and programming, we will provide the latest AI and programming environment that allows for various activities at the Keio student level. By planning data science and business contests that require AI and programming together with industry, we will increase the number of participating Keio students, that is, Keio students skilled in AI and programming. Then, while promoting the use of AI and advanced programming in the Keio students' own research, we will also open our doors to Keio faculty and researchers. Through in-depth discussions among Keio students, corporate members, and researchers, we will pioneer the forefront of using the latest AI and advanced programming tools, while also feeding back these methods to all basic research at Keio University.

Fiscal Year 2020 Business Plan

■ Regarding activities continuing from FY2019: Background, rationale, and goals for continuation

  1. Providing advanced computing resources to students

  2. Conducting level-specific AI and programming workshops

  3. Holding various AI and programming contests

  4. Regularly holding individual consultation sessions on AI and program utilization

  5. Training for participation in the Inter-Collegiate Programming Contest and travel support for participants in the Asian regional contest

In addition to the above, we will continue activities to encourage the participation of new member companies and individual benefactors.

■ New activity goals and content for FY2020, and background for implementation

To strongly encourage participation from students outside the Faculty of Science and Technology, we will increase cross-faculty activities such as medical AI and financial AI.

Fiscal Year 2019 Business Report

■ Implementation details for the business plan of the fiscal year, and research results and degree of achievement

In fiscal year 2019, we engaged in the following activities using the "AI and Advanced Programming Rooms" established on the Hiyoshi and Yagami Campuses, as well as general classrooms.

  1. Providing advanced computing resources to students

  2. Conducting level-specific AI and programming workshops (23 series of five 90-minute sessions were held throughout the spring and fall semesters, with a total of over 500 Keio students attending)

  3. Holding various AI and programming contests (a total of 7 times)

  4. Regularly holding individual consultation sessions on AI and program utilization

  5. Training for participation in the Inter-Collegiate Programming Contest and travel support for participants in the Asian regional contest

This center made a provisional start as a startup center in its first fiscal year. After its launch, it gained the endorsement of many companies, and by the summer, 10 companies had joined as member companies. As a result, we were able to begin activities as an official center in the fall.
