Summary

Blindness and visual impairment greatly reduce people's quality of life and cause significant medical and economic losses. However, conventional ophthalmology cannot be performed without the use of fixed, expensive, and specialized equipment, which is a major constraint to the delivery of adequate eye care, especially in developing countries. As a solution, the applicant has developed and commercialized Smart Eye Camera, a smartphone attachment-type medical device. Based on the idea that the devices and technologies originated at Keio will contribute to the reduction of economic loss and the development of the world by restoring sight, they are conducting research with the goal of developing and improving the accuracy of ophthalmic AI.
