To powerfully promote globalization and interdisciplinary research at Keio University, this fiscal year KGRI also simultaneously called for applications for the Pre-startup Research Grant (10 grants of 300,000 yen each) for embryonic research in the stage preceding startup research.

Even considering the extension of the application period due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we received a large number of applications, marking a successful start.

Ten projects were selected for the Pre-startup Research Grant. Among them, "Designing the Experience of Appreciating Art in the Age of Remote Communication Technology Brought About by COVID-19" by Chihiro Sato (Senior Assistant Professor, Graduate School of Media Design (KMD)); "Building a New-Era Educational System for Young Doctors" by Tatsuya Kato (Assistant Professor, School of Medicine); "An Exploratory Study on the Influence of Japanese and Thai Cultural Orientations on the Country-of-Origin Effect in Co-branded Product Evaluations" by Mototetsu Sakashita (Professor, Graduate School of Business Administration); and "Identification and Countermeasures for Headache Risks in Daily Life" by Tsubasa Takizawa (Assistant Professor, School of Medicine), although still in the embryonic research stage, stood out for their interdisciplinarity and pioneering nature, and their future development is highly anticipated. We hope that the recipients will make effective use of the Pre-startup Research Grant to bring their respective research to full fruition. Of course, the other selected research projects were also very interesting. We encourage them to grow their research while concretely envisioning global and interdisciplinary developments.

We hope that the grants will be used appropriately and effectively by the recipients and will serve as a support for the development of each research project.
