Call for Applications: Global Research Development Project "Subsidy for English Research Achievements"

1. Overview

This subsidy, as part of the Keio University Global Research Development Project, provides financial assistance for expenses related to the creation of research achievements in English.

2. Purpose

(1) To not only maintain but also dramatically enhance the reputation and status of Keio University as an international research university, both domestically and internationally, and to contribute to its sustainable development in the future.

(2) To promote the creation of international research achievements through the activities of the Keio University Global Research Institute (KGRI).

(3) Based on the above objectives, to prioritize subsidies for research outcomes from KGRI.

3. Eligibility

(1) The Director, Vice-Director, members, and visiting researchers affiliated with KGRI

(2) KGRI research project members

(3) Full-time faculty members, graduate students, and undergraduate students of Keio University

4. Eligible Research Achievements (in order of priority)

(1) English papers published in international academic journals

(2) English papers published in academic journals issued in Japan

(3) Research books in English

(4) KGRI working papers

*Applications will be reviewed primarily based on the degree of international impact.

*If the journal does not have an impact factor, please provide "information explaining why this application is worthy" in the application form and, if possible, attach objective materials that indicate its importance in the relevant field.

*Reviews are conducted on a case-by-case basis, so academic journals that have been accepted in the past are not guaranteed to be accepted every time.

*Only one application is permitted per research achievement.

*In the case of co-authorship by faculty members within the university, multiple individuals cannot apply for this subsidy separately for the same work.

5. Eligible Period

Works published or released during the current fiscal year for which payment has been completed in the applicant's name by the time of application, in principle.

6. Eligible Expenses

The subsidy covers expenses related to the creation of research achievements in English (including bank transfer fees).

・English proofreading fees and paper submission support service fees

・Submission fees

・Publication fees (including web publication fees and open access fees)

[Ineligible Expenses]

Reprint costs, etc.

*However, reprint costs are eligible for the subsidy only if they are included in the publication fee and cannot be separated. When applying, please be sure to specify whether the publication fee includes reprint costs.

*Expenses for additional services, such as having the work featured on the cover for an extra fee, are not eligible for the subsidy.

7. Subsidy Amount

・Subsidy for English proofreading fees and paper submission support service fees

*Up to 200,000 yen per item. However, this does not apply to books.

*The subsidy amount will be determined after a review.

・Full subsidy for submission and publication fees (excluding ineligible expenses)

8. Application Method

Please attach the following documents to the designated application form and submit them.

(2) Invoices for English proofreading fees, paper submission support service fees, submission fees, and publication fees

(3) Original remittance statement (or receipt)

(4) The journal in which the paper was published (offprint), book, or the relevant manuscript

(5) If payment was made by credit card, the statement issued by the credit card company (with the relevant transaction clearly marked)

*All payment-related documents must be in the applicant's name.

The fiscal year is determined by the date on the receipt. If a work is published near the end of a fiscal year and payment is made in the following fiscal year, the publication year is the previous year, but the receipt date will be in the following year. Only in this case, please submit your application during the submission period of the following fiscal year.

9. Submission Period and Office

Submission Period (for FY2019): April 1, 2019–February 10, 2020

Submission Period (for FY2020): April 1, 2020–February 10, 2021

10. Review

(1) Review Method

The KGRI review committee will examine applications and decide whether to accept or reject them.

(2) Notification of Review Results

Applicants will be notified of the results.
