On Thursday, July 11, 2024, the first installment of the Keio Research Showcase Special Contents Series was held, featuring singer, actress, and lyricist Ms. Yo Hitoto in a talk event titled "Intersection of Words, Chain of Learning."
The archived video is available here .
To begin, Professor Yuko Kimishima of the Faculty of Law and Director of KGRI took the stage to give the opening remarks, explaining the mission of KGRI and the purpose of the Research Showcase project.
Following this, Ms. Hitoto, along with Professor Junichi Ushiba of the Faculty of Science and Technology and Professor Tatsuhiko Yamamoto of the Law School, both of whom have been close friends with Ms. Hitoto since their university days, took the stage. Moderated by freelance announcer Ms. Yumi Ohara, a friendly talk unfolded before the faculty, staff, and students gathered at the venue.
While sharing episodes from their university days, they engaged in a wide-ranging discussion from an interdisciplinary perspective on topics including the importance of real-life interaction, collaboration, and dialogue with friends; the relationship between AI and creativity; how to deal with the flood of information in the digital age; the role of the university as a place for mutual learning; and the depth and weight of "words." During the subsequent Q&A session (with questions submitted in advance), a sense of empathy for the comments carefully crafted by Ms. Hitoto spread throughout the venue.
Finally, Vice-President Masayuki Amagai (in charge of research) gave the closing remarks, once again mentioning the power of words and their context and the importance of crossing boundaries (between fields), bringing the successful event to a close. A video of the talk will be released at a later date.
