On April 19, 2023, a special seminar by Dr. Denis Le Bihan, a world-renowned authority on MRI (Visiting Professor of Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine, Human Brain Research Center, and The director of the Federative Research Institute of Functional Neuroimaging), was held at JKiC on the Shinanomachi Campus of Keio University.
In this seminar, Dr. Le Bihan discussed topics such as the fundamental background of the development of diffusion functional MRI and the role of aquaporins in the brain's lymphatic flow. In addition to discussing the introduction of a new indicator (S-index) for semi-automatic differentiation, he also shared his insights on the latest high-field MRI, which enables high spatiotemporal resolution. Based on these findings, he introduced a bold approach aimed at elucidating brain function from the behavior of water molecules at the local level and theoretical physics. The seminar was a very meaningful time, allowing us to reaffirm the importance of water molecule dynamics in brain function and brain-related diseases.
