KGRI2040 Independence and Self-Respect ProjectPlatform and "The 2040 Problem" Project SymposiumWhat is a "Newspaper" in a Digital Society

■ Details

In a digital society where platform companies have become the gatekeepers of all "discourse," the significance of the "newspaper" is being questioned once again. Amid a flood of information on the internet designed to strongly capture our attention, such as misinformation and low-quality articles compiled from online sources, can "newspapers" truly survive? And should they survive?

If the answer is "Yes," the next question is "How." If the perception of news as a product is changing among us—who have become inseparable from our smartphones—or within our "brains," it may be necessary to redefine the very concept of "news" and transform the form of the "newspaper" itself.

This symposium will examine these issues from a cross-disciplinary perspective.
