Abstract :

  • In recent years, auction theory has made remarkable progress, and there are an increasing number of cases where governments and companies are utilizing this academic knowledge. Good examples include the design of auction methods for frequency licenses by national governments and the design of auction methods for web advertising slots by Google. However, in Japan, the very idea of applying the insights of economics to practice is still weak, and similar movements are rarely seen.

  • In this lecture, after first giving an overview of "NFTs," the speaker will explain rare practical examples in Japan: a real estate auction at Duederi & Deal Co., Ltd. and an NFT auction at Gaudiy Inc. The speaker was involved in the design of both.

  • Services using blockchain are highly compatible with auction theory (and mechanism design in a broader sense), and the lecture will also cover future application possibilities.
