On January 26, Toshiro Nakayama, a Professor at the Faculty of Policy and Management, was joined by two other Keio representatives in taking the stage at the Hong Kong Foreign Correspondents' Club to engage in discussions at a meeting with members of the foreign media and with Hong Kong-based researchers on national security issues of Japan and Asia.
Under the moderation of Bloomberg journalist David Tweed, Toshihiro Nakayama followed an address by KGRI Vice-Director Tsuchiya Motohiro, a Professor at the Graduate School of Media, with a lecture on challenges for Japanese diplomacy centered on Japan-China relations. Michito Tsuruoka, an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Policy Management, also lectured on regional challenges centered on Japanese security policy.
The audience were deeply engaged by the lectures, with many questions and comments fielded during the proceedings. This was due in part to the rare opportunity which the presence of experts on diplomacy and national security from Japan in Hong Kong represented.
David Tweed who stewarded on the day, stated his expectation that such events would continue to be held going forward, and it was agreed that the potential of holding an event at another location in Hong Kong would be looked into.
