During the morning of March 8, 2018, a research caravan was held at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS).
From Keio University, Motohiro Tsuchiya (Professor, Graduate School of Media and Governance) and Isao Miyaoka (Professor, Faculty of Law) gave research reports and, from CNAS, President Richard Fontaine, Senior Advisor Patrick M. Cronin, Senior Fellow Daniel Kliman, and researcher Harry Krejsa attended and participated in discussions.
The report from Professor Tsuchiya discussed the necessity to consider the hardware aspects of cybersecurity, in particular the protection of submarine cables. Professor Miyaoka also reported on Japan-U.S. cooperation on defense technologies based on relaxation of arms exports from Japan. Discussions were subsequently held on the impacts of technology on security.
At the end of the meeting, agreement was reached on putting forward a proposal for presentations from graduate school students starting from the forthcoming academic year.
