The final lecture by Professor Kikuko Ota was held on Friday, March 8, 2018, in Room 201 of the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care Building at Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC).
The final lecture, titled "Gerontological Nursing and I," followed a slide presentation titled "My Journey," in which she spoke about how she has approached the aging society as a nursing educator and researcher. This presentation was a timeline that overlaid social and nursing trends onto her own personal journey, and she prepared it until late the previous night with Yuriko Mashida, an assistant professor in the same field of gerontological nursing. Professor Ota has led the field of gerontological nursing through her forward-looking, visionary research and practice. It was a moving lecture that revealed how her achievements were rooted in a commitment to valuing human connections in all her activities.
After the final lecture, many people presented her with bouquets and offered congratulatory remarks. Afterward, a reception was held in the first-floor student lounge. There, attendees shared their memories, allowing everyone to discover new aspects of Professor Ota's charm from various perspectives.
Over 60 people gathered for the event, and at the reception, the air was filled with attendees sharing fond farewells.
