At the SFC Open Research Forum 2017, "The 11th SFC Student Research and Activity Presentation," the Student Association for Policy of Nursing and Medical Care (SAPnmc) won 2nd place in the Poster Division for its presentation titled "A Model Concept for a Dementia Friendly University: Examining and Communicating How University Students Can Participate in the Community."

It is predicted that by 2025, one in five people aged 65 and over will have dementia, creating a need for entire local communities, not just medical and welfare professionals, to support people with dementia and their families. Focusing on universities as places where many young people gather, SAPnmc has been exploring ways to promote understanding of dementia and to encourage participation in and implementation of various dementia-friendly activities. They then conducted a nationwide survey to identify the key elements of a "Dementia Friendly University" that can enhance the next generation's understanding of dementia and contribute to the community. Based on these findings, they conceptualized and presented a model for a "Dementia Friendly University." At the venue, many people, including not only university students but also members of the general public, stopped to listen to their explanation.
