On Friday, November 20, 2015, the Open Research Forum (ORF) was held at Roppongi Midtown, where the Nursing Best Practice Laboratory hosted a session on the theme of "Mindfulness for Self and Others."
The mindfulness workshop was led by Sunrye Park, a full-time lecturer at the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care; Yuka Takita, an assistant professor at the same faculty; and Mitsuhiro Sado, an assistant professor at the School of Medicine. A diverse group of 56 people attended and experienced mindfulness, including undergraduate students from the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care and SFC, homemakers raising children, and business professionals in human resources.
Mindfulness is "a mental training to pay attention in the present moment without judgment," and its practice is said to lead to compassion for others. During the session, an overview of mindfulness was provided from a neuroscientific perspective, after which all participants experienced several types of meditation.
Through mindfulness meditation, sharing experiences, and discussion, many participants shared their feedback. Comments included, "I felt very relaxed," "My body became warm and I couldn't help but fall asleep," and "I want to incorporate mindfulness into my daily life and business."
