January 9, 2024
The 19th White Coat Ceremony was held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Kitasato Hall on the Shinanomachi Campus.
The White Coat Ceremony is a ceremony for the 106 fourth-year students (the 105th graduating class) who will begin their clinical clerkships this January. It is an occasion for them to reaffirm their sincere commitment to patients and renew their dedication as aspiring physicians.
At the ceremony, Takanori Kanai, Dean of the School of Medicine; Morio Matsumoto, Hospital Director; and Junzo Takeda, Chairman of the School of Medicine Sanshikai, delivered addresses. They spoke about the importance of listening to patients' voices and making judgments with deep observational skills as the students begin their training in a clinical setting, offering advice and words of encouragement for their journey as medical professionals.
After a video of messages from faculty members of various departments, produced by the 105th graduating class, was shown, the white coats were presented. As part of their training in professionalism, the students of the 105th graduating class recited the "Oath," which they had written themselves.
Wearing their new white coats, each embroidered with their name, the students took a new step forward, embracing a spirit of compassion and service to patients and aiming to become physicians trusted by their patients.
