On Saturday, January 7, the 18th White Coat Ceremony was held at the Kitasato Hall on the Shinanomachi Campus.

The White Coat Ceremony is a ceremony for the 110 fourth-year students (Class of 104) who will begin their clinical clerkships this January. The ceremony serves to reaffirm their sincere commitment to patients and renew their dedication as aspiring physicians.

At the ceremony, Takanori Kanai, Dean of the School of Medicine; Morio Matsumoto, Hospital Director; and Junzo Takeda, Chairman of the School of Medicine Sanshikai, offered words of guidance and encouragement for becoming medical professionals. They spoke of the importance of listening to patients' voices and making judgments with keen observation as the students begin their practical training in a clinical setting.

After a video of messages from faculty members of various departments, produced by the Class of 104, was shown, the white coats were presented. Then, as part of their training in professionalism, the students recited the "Oath," which they had written themselves.

Wearing their new white coats, each embroidered with their name, the students took a new step forward, embracing a spirit of compassion and service and aiming to become physicians trusted by their patients.
