Keio University Hospital, Sanshikai, and The Keio Medical Society Hold Joint 100th Anniversary Ceremony and Symposium

On Saturday, September 11, 2021, the joint 100th anniversary ceremony and symposium for Keio University Hospital, Sanshikai, and The Keio Medical Society was held at the South School Building Hall on Mita Campus.

To take the utmost precautions against the spread of COVID-19, only authorized personnel gathered at the venue, and the ceremony and symposium were live-streamed to a registered audience.

The commemorative ceremony, emceed by Ms. Ayaka Ogawa, began with the screening of 100th anniversary videos for the hospital and Sanshikai. This was followed by an address from President Kohei Itoh. Speeches were then given by Hospital Director Morio Matsumoto, Sanshikai Chairman Junzo Takeda, and The Keio Medical Society Chairman Masayuki Amagai. Congratulatory remarks were also offered by Koyu Kobayashi, Chairman of the Board of The Kitasato Institute, and Yasuko Suganuma, President of the Keio Rengo Mita-kai.

At the commemorative symposium, held under the theme "For the Next 100 years," following the opening remarks by Vice-President Yuko Kitagawa, former Deans of the School of Medicine and Hospital Directors—Professor Emeritus Yoshiaki Toyama, Professor Emeritus Yasuo Ikeda, Professor Emeritus Takao Saruta, Professor Makoto Suematsu of the Department of Biochemistry, Professor Emeritus Tsutomu Takeuchi, Professor Emeritus Masaru Murai, and Professor Emeritus Naoki Aikawa—served as moderators. Eight physicians and researchers leading cutting-edge medicine in their respective fields gave lectures.

In Part 1, themed "Medical Care and Human Resource Development for the Next Generation," lectures were given by Professor Junichi Sasaki of the Department of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, Professor Masahiro Jinzaki of the Department of Radiology (Diagnostic), and Professor Toshiaki Kadokawa of the Medical Education Center.

In Part 2, themed "World-Leading, Cutting-Edge Keio Medical Sciences," lectures were given by Professor Yuko Kaneko of the Division of Rheumatology, Professor Hideyuki Okano of the Department of Physiology, and Professor Hideyuki Saya of the Division of Gene Regulation, Institute for Advanced Medical Research.

In Part 3, themed "The History and Future of Keio Medical Sciences," Vice-President Keita Yamauchi and Chiaki Mukai, Specially Appointed Vice President of Tokyo University of Science, gave lectures, sharing insights into medicine and medical sciences that will lead to the next 100 years.

Finally, with closing remarks from Dean of the School of Medicine Takanori Kanai, all programs celebrating the 100th anniversary of the three organizations came to a close.
