A new course will be established in the School of Medicine, to be jointly managed by the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, as well as the School of Medicine and the Graduate School of Medicine. While concrete discussions have been underway at the faculty meetings of both schools, the basic policy has now been finalized. An agreement was signed between Dean Masayuki Amagai of the School of Medicine and Dean Hidemi Misawa of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Faculty of Pharmacy faculty meeting held on October 12.

The jointly managed course aims to become one of Japan's leading organizations, where the School of Medicine, the University Hospital, and the Faculty of Pharmacy work in close collaboration to play an important role in advanced medical care, as well as to train and produce pharmacist-scientists with advanced and leadership skills. To this end, an important mission of this jointly managed course will be to carry out advanced research activities through a collaborative system between the two schools, utilizing the resources of the University Hospital, one of Japan's leading high-volume centers. It will also serve as a base for students, graduates, and faculty members of the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences to be active on the Shinanomachi Campus, thereby cultivating the next generation of pharmaceutical talent well-versed in medicine.

Going forward, coordination will continue to be made toward building a concrete structure for the jointly managed course, including faculty appointments, and ensuring its smooth launch.
