International Exchange
The Keio University School of Medicine lists "qualities as an international medical professional" as one of its educational goals (competencies upon graduation) and encourages students to participate in international exchange.
The largest international exchange program for students is the Short-term Overseas Study Program [Clinical] for fifth-year undergraduate students. Additionally, collaborative programs with the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), where English is the official language, include a Summer Camp primarily for second-year students and a Research Internship as independent study for third-year students. Although not part of the regular curriculum, there are also programs such as the Columbia University "International Collaboration and Exchange Program" (commonly known as the ICE Program) and the Laos Primary Health Care Medical Team Activity Project. Furthermore, for students traveling for short-term study abroad or international academic conferences, systems for expense subsidies and various scholarships are in place.
As extracurricular activities, there are organizations such as the International Medical Association (IMA), which dispatches students to South America, the Keio-Yonsei Scientific Flow, the Japan-China Medical Student Exchange Association, and the African Medicine Society, all of which are actively engaged in activities.
