We believe that the irreplaceable and greatest asset of the Keio University School of Medicine is its "talented individuals." By securing talented individuals and providing them with the best education, we can produce excellent physicians who possess character, knowledge, and skill. We believe this will enable us to realize world-class medical care and provide safe and satisfying medical services to patients who visit Keio University Hospital.
In order to secure excellent young people and provide the best education, private universities, unlike national or public universities, cannot rely solely on subsidies from the national or local governments. Although the tuition at the Keio University School of Medicine is kept at the lowest level compared to other private medical schools out of a desire to secure talented individuals, the current unstable economic situation means that it remains a significant burden for average households.
The Keio University School of Medicine has been fortunate to receive donations from individuals who wish to "help foster excellent medical students." Taking this opportunity, the Keio University School of Medicine established a scholarship system in 2008 funded by donations from "benevolent intent," and named it the "Zoi Scholarship," quoting the words of Yukichi Fukuzawa. The purpose of the "Zoi Scholarship" is to contribute to human resource development in the School of Medicine by providing scholarships to students who excel in both character and academics and who will lead the future of medical sciences. To pass on the "benevolent intent" of our donors for eternity, we have decided to manage these funds as an endowment and use the returns for scholarships. We intend to use the goodwill received from everyone to foster excellent physicians and utilize it so that the benefits can be returned to society.
We would be grateful if those who sympathize with the purpose of the "Zoi Scholarship" and wish to make a donation would contact the office listed below. A representative will explain the details and purpose.
Dean, Keio University School of Medicine: Toru Takebayashi
Director, Keio University Hospital: Koichi Fukunaga
