Scholarship Systems for Keio University as a Whole

Scholarships include those designed to foster students with outstanding character and academic records, as well as those that provide assistance to students who find it difficult to study due to financial reasons. The purpose of all scholarships is to provide an environment where students can concentrate on their studies and to develop human resources who can play an active role as sensible members of society in the future. Type: Grant

Amount: 500,000 yen / year

Period: 1 year (Applications accepted every year)

Eligibility: Students who are recognized as having financial difficulty in continuing their studies, have a strong desire to learn, and have excellent academic records and character. (2nd-year undergraduate students and above)

Keio University Degree Completion Scholarship

Type: Grant

Amount: Within the range of tuition fees (Average amount: 300,000 yen / year)

Period: 1 year (Applications accepted every year)

Eligibility: Students who find it difficult to study due to sudden changes in household finances (including damage from large-scale natural disasters) or continuous financial hardship. (All years)

Keio Gijuku Iji-kai Scholarship

Type: Grant

Amount: 800,000 yen / year

Period: 1 year (Applications accepted every year)

Eligibility: Students with excellent character and academic records who find it difficult to concentrate on their studies for financial reasons (priority given to students from outside the Tokyo metropolitan area). (All years)

Designated Donation Scholarship

Type: Grant

Amount: 100,000–600,000 yen / year

Period: 1 year

Eligibility: Varies by scholarship.

Keio University 150th Anniversary Commemorative Scholarship (Overseas Study Support)

Type: Grant

Amount: 100,000, 200,000, or 300,000 yen per year depending on the type of overseas study

Period: 1 year

Eligibility: Students with excellent academic records and character who find it difficult to experience overseas study for financial reasons. (All years)

School of Medicine Scholarship Fund

Purpose: Scholarship for School of Medicine students who need financial assistance

Annual Amount: Grant, up to 1,000,000 yen per year

Eligibility: Students enrolled in the School of Medicine (2nd year and above) who fall under any of the following items:

1. Students with excellent academic records who need financial assistance

2. Students with significant social contributions who need financial assistance

FY2025: 35 applicants★, 6 recipients

FY2024: 42 applicants☆, 6 recipients

General Medical Education Promotion Fund Scholarship

Purpose: To provide financial support to outstanding human resources who have excellent character and academic records, are enthusiastic about extracurricular activities, and can contribute to society in the future through medicine or medical sciences

Annual Amount: Grant, up to 1,000,000 yen per year

Eligibility: Students enrolled in the School of Medicine (2nd year and above) whose studies are hindered primarily by financial hardship and who need financial support

School of Medicine Education Support Scholarship (Financial Support) *Ended in FY2024

Purpose: To support the maintenance and improvement of the learning environment and to foster high-quality medical students

Annual Amount: Grant, up to 500,000 yen per year

Eligibility: Students enrolled in the School of Medicine (2nd year and above) who are recognized as needing funds for learning encouragement and who are expected to be promoted or graduate

School of Medicine Zoui Scholarship Fund

Purpose: To contribute to human resource development in the School of Medicine by providing incentives or scholarships to students who will lead the future of medicine.

Annual Amount: Grant, up to 1,000,000 yen per year

Eligibility: Students enrolled in the School of Medicine (2nd year and above) whose enrollment or studies are hindered primarily by financial hardship and who need financial assistance

◆ Commendation Category (School of Medicine 4th year and above)

Annual Amount: Grant, approximately 50,000 yen

Eligibility: Students who have achieved particularly outstanding results that serve as a model for School of Medicine students in various fields such as (1) academic activities (independent activities, research/conference presentations, etc.), (2) cultural/artistic activities, (3) sports activities, and (4) social contribution activities (volunteer activities, etc.)

FY2025: 5 applicants, 1 recipient

FY2024: 1 applicant, 0 recipients

◆ Research Incentive Category

Annual Amount: Grant, approximately 50,000 yen

Eligibility: Students enrolled in the School of Medicine (2nd year and above) who have research experience

Special Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship: International Activity Support Scholarship

Purpose: To support School of Medicine students who are active in international fields and contribute to the development of human resources who can play an active role as international leaders in a wide range of fields not only in Japan but also overseas in the future

Annual Amount: Grant, up to 2,000,000 yen per year

Eligibility: Students enrolled in the School of Medicine who fall under all of the following items: (1) Students with excellent character and academic records who are healthy in mind and body, (2) Students who are active in international fields, (3) Students who will conduct activities at overseas or equivalent facilities during the fiscal year

FY2025: 37 applicants, 36 recipients

School of Medicine Physician-Scientist Training Scholarship

Purpose: To support School of Medicine students who choose the MD-PhD Program and aim to become physician-scientists

Annual Amount: Grant, up to 1,000,000 yen per year

Eligibility: Students enrolled in the 5th or 6th year of the School of Medicine at the time of application who have chosen the MD-PhD Program

FY2025: 12 applicants, 12 recipients

School of Medicine Education Support Scholarship

Purpose: Scholarship for 4th-year students to prepare for clinical clerkships

Annual Amount: Grant, up to 50,000 yen per year

Eligibility: 4th-year School of Medicine students

Shibasaburo Kitasato Future Human Resource Development Fund Scholarship *New from FY2024

Purpose: To support students who are active in international activities to foster future School of Medicine students

Annual Amount: Grant, part of travel expenses

Eligibility: Students enrolled in the 5th year of the School of Medicine who fall under all of the following items: (1) Those who have applied for the short-term overseas study program (clinical) for the relevant fiscal year and passed the internal selection, (2) Those with excellent character and academic records who are healthy in mind and body, (3) Those who understand the purpose of this scholarship and the founding spirit of Keio University and have a high spirit of adventure and willingness to take on challenges

Private Scholarships for Students in the School of Medicine

Every year, we receive recruitment notices from private organizations for scholarships targeting students in the School of Medicine.

In addition, there are many recruitment notices from scholarship foundations that do not impose restrictions on faculty, department, or alma mater.

Satta Medical Scholarship Foundation

Purpose: To contribute to the development of medical students aiming to become good physicians and researchers.

Annual Amount: Grant of 30,000 yen / month (for 2 years)

Eligibility: 5th-year students in the School of Medicine (apply during the 4th year)

Individuals who are excellent in both academic performance and character, and are in good health.

Kawano Foundation for Pediatric Medical Research

Purpose: To support medical students for the advancement of pediatric medical sciences.

Annual Amount: Grant of up to 70,000 yen / month (for the minimum period of study)

Eligibility: Individuals who are excellent in both academic performance and character, and are in good health.

Graduates of high schools in Saitama Prefecture or Chiba Prefecture. (All grades)

Pigeon Scholarship Foundation

Purpose: To support students who aspire to become physicians in neonatology, pediatrics, or obstetrics in the future.

Annual Amount: Grant of up to 50,000 yen / month (for 2 years)

Eligibility: 5th-year students in the School of Medicine who aspire to become physicians in neonatology, pediatrics, or obstetrics in the future.

Shuto Scholarship Foundation

Purpose: To provide scholarship grants to students majoring in medical sciences and basic medical research fields, thereby contributing to the development of human resources and education in the next generation of the medical field.

Annual Amount: Grant of 700,000 yen / year (for 1 year)

Eligibility: Individuals who, or whose guardians, continue to reside in Kanagawa Prefecture at the time of application, and who are enrolled as regular students in the Keio University School of Medicine or Graduate School of Medicine.
