Program Content (FY2026)
This program is based at Keio University Hospital and combines training at collaborative hospitals located in prefectures with fewer doctors, cultivating a multifaceted perspective through experience in multiple medical settings.
[Wide-Area Collaborative Program 1: Kitami Red Cross Hospital]
1st Year
Internal Medicine (24 weeks)
Emergency 8 weeks + Anesthesiology 4 weeks *1
1–3 clinical departments from Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, or Psychiatry (4 weeks each)
2nd Year
Community Medicine (including general outpatient and home care) (4 weeks) *2
Clinical departments from Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, or Psychiatry not trained in during the 1st year (4 weeks)
Elective (up to 40 weeks)
1st Year: Training at Keio University Hospital; 2nd Year: Training at Kitami Red Cross Hospital.
*1 Regarding training in the emergency department, the following rules apply in principle.
・Of the 12 weeks of Emergency Medicine in the 1st year, 8 weeks will be Emergency Medicine training and 4 weeks will be emergency department training in the anesthesiology department.
*2 Regarding facilities for community medicine training
・Even in facilities specializing in specialized medical care (e.g., dermatology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, etc.), training content will be conducted that allows for the achievement of goals for general outpatient training. These facilities allow for training in the treatment of general diseases in addition to community-based integrated care and surgical diseases.
・If general outpatient training cannot be fulfilled through community medicine training, adjustments will be made so that short-term general outpatient training (Internal Medicine (including General Medicine), Pediatrics, Surgery, etc.) can be conducted at Keio University Hospital.
・During the community medicine training period, home care training will be conducted for one to several days between Monday and Saturday (working hours until 14:30).
・Clinical departments providing general outpatient training include Internal Medicine (including General Medicine), Pediatrics (only at Keio University Hospital), Surgery, and Community Medicine. (4 weeks or more)
・Depending on the collaborative hospital, the clinical departments available for training in the 2nd year may be limited.
[Wide-Area Collaborative Program 2: University of Miyazaki Hospital]
1st Year
Internal Medicine (24 weeks)
Emergency 8 weeks + Anesthesiology 4 weeks *1
1–3 clinical departments from Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, or Psychiatry (4 weeks each)
2nd Year
Community Medicine (including general outpatient and home care) (4 weeks) *2

*3 Among the compulsory training in the 2nd year, [Community Medicine Training (including general outpatient and home care training) (4 weeks)] will be conducted at University of Miyazaki Hospital. [Training in clinical departments from Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, or Psychiatry not trained in during the 1st year (4 weeks)] will be conducted at either Keio University Hospital or University of Miyazaki Hospital.
・Clinical departments providing general outpatient training include Internal Medicine (including General Medicine), Pediatrics (only at Keio University Hospital), Surgery, and Community Medicine. (4 weeks or more)

The Wide-Area Collaborative Course is based at Keio University Hospital and collaborates with Kitami Red Cross Hospital, Suwa Central Hospital, and University of Miyazaki Hospital to provide training in diverse medical environments, including prefectures with fewer doctors. By learning broadly from advanced specialized medical care to community medicine, you can discover your strengths and expand the scope of your future career.
In this training, you will acquire the ability to respond flexibly to different medical environments and broad clinical capabilities. During your residency, which is an important starting point as a physician, you will cultivate professionalism, communication skills that support team medicine, and leadership. We also encourage academic growth through conference presentations and research activities.
Through this program, by accumulating multifaceted experiences and broadening your perspective, you should be able to grow into a "resilient physician" capable of responding flexibly to any medical setting. We encourage you to take on the challenge and expand your horizons as a physician.
