The Master's Program of the Graduate School of Medicine targets individuals who have studied in the fields of natural sciences, humanities, or social sciences. Its educational policy is to enable students to acquire a broad perspective and deep logical thinking regarding medical research at the Graduate School of Medicine and University Hospital—which serve as sites for medical research, education, and medical practice—and to foster a strong motivation for research and a proactive drive to act autonomously by making them aware of the social importance of research results. By engaging in medical research, the program aims to train highly skilled professionals with deep knowledge of medical care, as well as individuals capable of playing active roles in diverse fields in the future.

Policy on Graduation Certification and Degree Conferral (Diploma Policy)

Educational Goals

Based on the Keio University Policy on Graduation Certification and Degree Conferral (Diploma Policy), the goal is to train highly skilled professionals with deep knowledge in medical sciences and healthcare-related fields, as well as to cultivate students aiming to advance to Doctoral Programs. In addition, the degree of Master of Medical Sciences [M.Med.Sci.] will be conferred upon students who satisfy the prescribed requirements set forth in the curriculum.

Qualities and Abilities Goal (1): Ability to establish research topics and appropriately set research and demonstration methods.

Policy on Curriculum Organization and Implementation (Curriculum Policy)

Organization of the Curriculum

To cultivate the qualities and abilities listed in the "Policy on Graduation Certification and Degree Conferral (Diploma Policy)," the Major in Medical Sciences (Master's) systematically organizes a curriculum consisting of lecture subjects in basic medical sciences and clinical medical sciences to foster basic knowledge of medical sciences, as well as research activities in the fields of medical and life sciences.

Implementation of the Curriculum

Based on this curriculum organization, education is implemented by combining teaching methods such as active learning, fieldwork, and PBL (Problem-Based Learning).

Methods for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The evaluation of learning outcomes for the qualities and abilities goals to be acquired through the curriculum is conducted using direct indicators based on the grading criteria defined for each subject, following the university-wide assessment plan. Evaluations are also conducted using quantitative/qualitative and direct/indirect indicators, including various questionnaires and surveys.

Admissions Policy

Ideal Student Profile

(1) Individuals who have studied natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, etc., and possess basic knowledge regarding medical and life sciences.

(2) Individuals who aspire to become professionals with deep knowledge and high-level specialized skills in medical sciences and healthcare, or who have the motivation to advance to Doctoral Programs.

(3) Individuals who can read, understand, critique, and engage in constructive discussion regarding English-language papers in medical and life sciences.

Basic Policy for Selection

In order to broadly accept such enrollees, selection is conducted through general entrance examinations.

  • Basic knowledge regarding medical and life sciences: Interview, application documents

  • Motivation to become a professional with deep knowledge and high-level specialized skills in medical sciences and healthcare, or motivation to advance to Doctoral Programs: Interview, application documents
