Main Activities

Central Organization for Medical Education at Keio University

The Medical Education Center is the central organization for medical education that collects the latest information on medical education, analyzes data through its IR (Institutional Research) division, and makes recommendations for curriculum development. It is staffed by experts in medical education who provide support for the medical education practiced in each department. Within the Medical Education Center, the IR division is organized independently to analyze medical education practices and outcomes as data.

Implementation and Management of Common Achievement Tests

The center handles the Common Achievement Tests administered by the Common Achievement Test Organization.

CBT (Computer Based Testing)

An examination for students before starting clinical clerkships to confirm the "knowledge" necessary for participating in clinical clerkships.

Pre-clinical Clerkship OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination)

An examination for students before starting clinical clerkships to confirm the "knowledge, attitudes, and skills" necessary for participating in clinical clerkships.

Faculty Development (FD)

To raise awareness of medical education and provide better education to students, we conduct FD seminars on educational techniques for faculty members. Furthermore, we have established the Best Teacher Award and the Medical Contribution Award as systems to recognize outstanding faculty members.

Best Teacher Award

In 2006, the "Best Teacher Award" was established for the purpose of faculty development and improving educational standards in the School of Medicine. Every year, Best Teachers are selected and honored for each academic year based on the results of student questionnaires regarding classes.

Please refer to the following for the previous year's results.

Medical Education Contribution Award (Outstanding Teacher Award)

The Medical Education Contribution Award is an award given to faculty members who have won first place in the Best Teacher Award three or more times, and was newly established in fiscal year 2019.

Faculty members who receive the Medical Education Contribution Award are excluded from the selection for the Best Teacher Award from the following year onwards, but are expected to serve as role models for young faculty members who will lead medical education in the future.

Operation of Training Centers

Operation of the Clinical Simulation Lab

Targeting students, residents, and nurses affiliated with the Shinanomachi Campus, we provide training for acquiring medical skills using various training models. In 2023, in addition to the 1st Clinical Simulation Lab in the East Building, the 2nd Clinical Simulation Lab was established on the 10th floor of Building 2. A dedicated manager handles the administration.

Operation of the Clinical Anatomy Lab (CAL)

This is a facility that provides advanced anatomical education, including skill acquisition, and conducts excellent anatomical research for physicians in order to return the results obtained from dissection to medical sciences and society, and to contribute significantly to the development of medical sciences and healthcare.

Healthcare Professional Education Research

The Medical Education Center conducts research related to the education of healthcare professionals.

For educational research conducted using only information such as anonymized grades, questionnaires, and observation data, direct consent is not necessarily obtained from each individual based on ethical guidelines established by the government. However, it is required to notify or disclose information about the implementation of the research, including the purpose of the research, and to guarantee the opportunity to refuse as much as possible. This method is called "opt-out."

If you do not wish for your data to be used for research, please inform the person in charge of each study.
