For the essay examination on the "Civil Code" in the entrance examination for the 2-year Course of the Major in Legal Practice at Keio University Law School, scheduled for September 2018, questions will be based on the 2017 Amended Civil Code (*), for educational reasons, even if it is not yet in effect at the time of the examination. The questions will be designed to test fundamental concepts of the Civil Code rather than detailed knowledge.
However, in consideration of applicants who have primarily studied the Civil Code based on the Pre-amendment Civil Code (*) during their undergraduate studies, answers based on the Pre-amendment Civil Code or its principles will also be accepted and will not be graded disadvantageously.
Please note that the Compendium of Six Codes (Roppo) distributed during the examination is scheduled to include both the 2017 Amended Civil Code and the Pre-amendment Civil Code.
* The Civil Code as amended by the "Act on Partial Revision of the Civil Code (Act No. 44 of 2017)," promulgated on June 2, 2017, is referred to as the "2017 Amended Civil Code," and the Civil Code before the amendment is referred to as the "Pre-amendment Civil Code."
