The following changes will be made to the admissions screening (conducted in 2016) for April 2017 matriculation (and September 2016 matriculation). "3) Regarding Changes to Early Advancement Requirements" was added on April 19, 2016. "4) Regarding the Submission of Original Documents Certifying Foreign Language Proficiency" was added on May 30, 2016.

1) Regarding the Four-Subject Entrance Examination for Third-Year Undergraduate Students (New)

To encourage third-year undergraduate students to advance to the 2-year Course through early graduation or early advancement and to reduce the time and financial burden of obtaining a legal qualification, a special track (for approximately 20 students) will be established starting with the entrance examinations conducted in 2016. This track will allow third-year undergraduate students to pass with only four subjects: Constitution, Civil Code, Criminal Code, and Commercial Code. The examination will be held at the same time and with the same questions as the six-subject entrance examination, and concurrent application is also possible. This is open to students from any university, faculty, or department. Third-year undergraduate students interested in the legal profession are strongly encouraged to apply. Successful applicants on this track will take a certification examination in litigation law subjects (Civil Procedure Code, Criminal Procedure Code) during the spring break before matriculation. If they do not meet the required standard, they will be required to take the corresponding subjects after matriculation.

2) Discontinuation of the One-Year Study Abroad Program for the September-entry 2-year Course

Selection for the one-year study abroad program through the entrance examination will be discontinued. Students who wish to study abroad for one year can apply for the internal selection process held after matriculation. Please note that selection for the half-year study abroad program for September matriculation will continue.

3) Regarding Changes to Early Advancement Requirements

The requirements for application via early advancement will be changed as follows. Applicants who meet all the conditions from A to C below will be permitted to apply to either the 3-year Course or the 2-year Course.

A. By the end of March 2017*, have completed three years of university enrollment.

B. By the end of March 2017*, be expected to have earned 90 or more credits since enrolling in university.

C. Have earned a grade of "Excellent" or its equivalent (corresponding to 80 or more on a 100-point scale) for at least 60% of the credits obtained by the end of the 2015 academic year (Heisei 27).

*For applicants to the half-year study abroad program for the 2-year Course and the Challenge Program for the 3-year Course, this should be read as "the end of September 2016."

4) Regarding the Submission of Original Documents Certifying Foreign Language Proficiency

When submitting documents to certify foreign language proficiency, you must submit the original documents. (Although page 32 of the 2017 Law School brochure stated that a copy could be submitted if submitting the original was difficult, this policy has been changed, and only originals will now be accepted.)
