"The Current State of the Lay Judge System and Criminal Justice: From a Prosecutor's Perspective"

Prosecutor Akira Yokoi (Public Trial Department, Yokohama District Public Prosecutors Office), who taught criminal law courses at this law school as a dispatched prosecutor until fiscal year 2012, will give a lecture on the theme of "The Current State of the Lay Judge System and Criminal Justice: From a Prosecutor's Perspective." Current students and alumni are encouraged to attend.

Lecture Contents

1. The current state of trials under the lay judge system (including the evidentiary activities of prosecutors and defense attorneys, the court's admission or rejection of evidence, etc.)

2. Effective courtroom activities in lay judge trials from a prosecutor's perspective

3. Other topics (such as the current state of criminal justice since the start of the lay judge system)

Speaker: Prosecutor Akira Yokoi (47th term)

After graduating from the Faculty of Law at Nihon University, he was appointed as a prosecutor in April 1995. After serving in positions including at the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, the Naha District Public Prosecutors Office, attached to the Judicial System and Legislation Department of the Minister's Secretariat at the Ministry of Justice, and the Special Investigation Department of the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, he was a professor at Keio University Law School (dispatched by the Ministry of Justice) from April 2010 to March 2013. Since April 2013, he has been with the Public Trial Department of the Yokohama District Public Prosecutors Office.
