Professor Katsumi Shinohara of the Law School Awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Star in Spring 2014
After graduating from the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Law, Professor Shinohara had a long and distinguished career on the front lines as a civil court judge since 1970. He served as the Director of the Intellectual Property High Court from 2005 and as the President of the Fukuoka High Court from 2007. Since joining Keio University Law School in 2010 as a Guest Professor, he has been dedicated to training the next generation of legal professionals, teaching required courses such as Basic Civil Practice, Theory of Factual Allegations, and Comprehensive Civil Law I, as well as advanced/specialized courses like Intellectual Property Law I and Thematic Seminars. While this award of the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Star recognizes his distinguished service as a judge, it is also a great honor for our Law School. For the graduates and current students who have learned directly from the professor, this will undoubtedly serve as a great source of encouragement as they pursue their future careers in the legal profession. Congratulations.
