The Keio University Law School has invited Mr. Jean-Louis Baudouin from Canada to hold a lecture as detailed below. Mr. Baudouin, formerly a professor of civil law at the University of Montreal's Faculty of Law, is currently serving as a judge on the Quebec Court of Appeal. He has also long been involved in law reform as the chairman of the committee for the revision of the Civil Code of Quebec.

In this lecture, he will speak from the perspective of "Economic Development and Codification," drawing on the history of how Quebec law, which inherited the French Civil Code, incorporated elements of common law to establish a new legal system.

In recent years, discussions on the reform of the Civil Code (law of obligations) have been gaining momentum in Japan. This lecture is expected to be of great interest to those of us exploring new legal systems in the broader context of globalization.

We highly recommend that students of the Keio University Law School, who will become the legal professionals of the near future, attend this lecture. We encourage your active participation.
