4. Content

The work of a prosecutor involves various fields beyond investigation and public trials. In this session, prosecutors—all of whom are graduates of Keio University, have experience on secondment to the Ministry of Justice and other agencies, and currently hold positions as the Director of the Tokyo National Tax Tribunal or as prosecutors handling administrative affairs at the Supreme Public Prosecutors Office—will share their experiences in various fields to discuss a part of the wide range of duties and roles of a prosecutor as a legal professional.

*Those wishing to attend should contact dispatched prosecutor Tomoho Awata by email (tomohoa@ls.keio.ac.jp) by 5:00 PM on Friday, October 10. While on-site registration for the lecture will be possible if seats are available, we encourage you to register in advance.

*A social gathering with the speakers is planned after the lecture (fee: approx. 3,000 yen). When registering for the lecture, please also indicate whether you will attend the social gathering by the deadline mentioned above.

[Speaker Biographies]

Mr. Ryuji Hatano

Graduated from Keio University, Faculty of Law. Appointed as a prosecutor in 1988. While serving at various district public prosecutors offices including Yokohama, Hakodate, Tokyo, and Niigata, he also worked at the Human Rights Bureau of the Ministry of Justice, the Saiban-in System Promotion Office of the Criminal Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Justice, and the Legal Training and Research Institute (as Deputy Instructor). After serving as Deputy Director of the Traffic Department, Deputy Director of the Administrative Affairs Office, and Deputy Director of the Public Security Department at the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, and as Director of the Traffic Department at the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, he has been the Director of the Tokyo National Tax Tribunal since April 2014.

Mr. Hitoshi Okubo

Graduated from Keio University, Faculty of Law. Appointed as a prosecutor in 1999. While serving at various district public prosecutors offices including Tokyo, Fukuoka, Naha, Yokohama, and Nagoya, he also worked at the Criminal Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Justice and the Criminal Planning Division of the Criminal Affairs Bureau of the National Police Agency. He has experience in research abroad in Germany and in overseas legal system research in Germany. He has been working at the Supreme Public Prosecutors Office since April 2014.

Mr. Shintaro Sekiguchi

Graduated from Keio University, Faculty of Law. Appointed as a prosecutor in 1999. While serving at various district public prosecutors offices including Tokyo, Osaka, Wakayama, and Hiroshima, he also worked at the Criminal Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Justice, the Tax Bureau of the Ministry of Finance, and the Minister's Secretariat of the Ministry of Justice. He has experience studying abroad in the United States and in overseas legal system research in Italy. He has been working at the Supreme Public Prosecutors Office since April 2013.
