The Public Prosecutor's Office's Approach to the Lay Judge System

4. Details

Incumbent prosecutors active on the front lines of investigations and trials will discuss the prosecution's approach to the lay judge system, drawing on their experiences in specific cases, including those subject to the lay judge system.

* A social gathering with the lecturers is planned after the lecture (fee: approx. 3,000 yen). Those who wish to attend the lecture are requested to also inform us whether or not they will attend the social gathering.

[Lecturer Biographies]

Mr. Kenichi Shimada

Graduated from the Faculty of Law at Chuo University. Appointed as a prosecutor in 1995. After serving at the Tokyo, Sapporo, Akita, Asahikawa, and Osaka District Public Prosecutors Offices, the Special Investigation Department and the Special Trial Department of the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, and as the Third-ranking Prosecutor at the Shizuoka District Public Prosecutors Office, he is currently the head of the main trial section at the Special Trial Department of the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, where he is primarily engaged in trials for cases subject to the lay judge system.

Mr. Masahisa Yokota

Graduated from the Faculty of Law at Keio University. Appointed as a prosecutor in 1999. After serving at the Tokyo, Hiroshima, Mito, and Naha District Public Prosecutors Offices, and the Special Trial Department of the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, he is currently at the Criminal Affairs Department of the Yokohama District Public Prosecutors Office, where he is primarily engaged in the investigation of cases subject to the lay judge system. He also has experience investigating the "Akihabara massacre" while at the Special Trial Department of the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office.
