On Wednesday, September 25, 2019, a delegation visited a joint seminar of the Graduate School's special lecture on intellectual property law and Professor Yuko Kimishima's seminar (4th year) in the Faculty of Law. The delegation included four members from the Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court of Thailand (CIPITC), led by Vice President Judge Mr. Supornchai Rangdang; four students from the Faculty of Law who achieved excellent results in a moot court competition hosted by the CIPITC; and two members from JETRO Bangkok, including Mr. Norihisa Kato, Director of the Intellectual Property Department (for Southeast Asia).
This visit was made possible through an introduction by Professor Toshiko Takenaka and Professor Rikako Watai of our university's Law School.
During the fourth period, Judge Miss Chanapa Chobpichian from the CIPITC gave an explanation about the court. Following this, the Thai students spoke about legal education in Thailand and the moot court competition hosted by the CIPITC.
From our university, Professor Kimishima introduced legal and practical legal education in Japan and the career paths of students in the field of intellectual property law. Additionally, Professor Yamamoto and Professor Litt from the Law School explained the LL.M. (Master of Laws (LL.M) in Global Legal Practice).
Finally, the undergraduate and graduate students from both universities split into groups to exchange information.
During the fifth period, a special lecture was given by Professor Christophe Ann, a Guest Professor (Global) at our university and a professor at the Technical University of Munich. The visitors from Thailand and Professor Watai also attended the lecture. Professor Ann discussed the importance of patent enforcement, using the situation in African countries where he has conducted research and education for many years as an example. After the fifth period, a question-and-answer session was held from European, Thai, and Japanese perspectives, resulting in an international exchange spanning multiple continents.
