On Saturday, November 12, 2016, the Keio University Faculty of Law co-hosted the "Japan-Brazil International Symposium 2016" with the National Consumer Affairs Center of Japan. This symposium is an event based on the academic exchange agreement with the University of São Paulo, Faculty of Law, which was concluded in 1981. More recently, it was held at the University of São Paulo in August 2015, where a comprehensive exchange agreement was also signed between the University of São Paulo and Keio University. With the support of the Japan-Brazil Law and Culture Association, established in May 2014, active exchanges have continued.

At this symposium, in response to the Act on Special Measures Concerning Civil Court Proceedings for the Collective Redress for Property Damage Incurred by Consumers, which came into effect on October 1, 2016, a debate was held involving Japanese experts. This followed lectures under the theme of "The Current State of Consumer Damage Relief and Deterrence Methods Through the Class Action System in Brazil" by experts involved in the establishment of Brazil's class action system, as well as judges and prosecutors engaged in class action practice. The venue was filled to capacity and was very lively, and the event concluded successfully to great acclaim.
