On Saturday, March 21, 2015, we held a workshop at Mita Campus, inviting Professor Lisa Baldez of Dartmouth College, a renowned scholar in the field of gender and politics. Professor Baldez's visit to Tokyo was supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's (MEXT) "Top Global University Project." At the workshop, chaired by Professor Mikiko Eto of Hosei University, Professor Baldez gave a presentation based on her recent book, Defying Convention: U.S. Resistance to the UN Treaty on Women's Rights (Cambridge University Press). In addition, three emerging scholars of gender and politics active in Japan and South Korea also presented their research. Furthermore, Professor Jackie Steele of the University of Tokyo and Professor Yuki Tsuji of Kyoto University served as commentators on the presentations.
