Public Policy Track

The Public Policy Track, established within the master’s program of the Major in Political Science, provides research and education aimed at training public servants and policy professionals with a strong grounding in politics.

About the Public Policy Track

At leading universities in Europe and the United States, master’s-level schools of public policy have long played a central role in training politicians, public servants, and other policy professionals. In Japan as well, the introduction of the professional graduate school system in 2003 led to the establishment of public policy schools and a wide range of public policy-focused graduate programs. Against this backdrop, the Graduate School established a specialized track in public policy in April 2009.

The curriculum includes a project course in Public Policy, specialized seminars conducted under the supervision of academic advisors, and courses in related fields such as political science, international relations, and law, which are relevant to the administrative category of the national public service career-track examination for graduate-level candidates.

Students who complete the program and are recognized as having acquired the qualifications required to serve as highly specialized public servants and policy professionals are awarded the degree of Master of Public Policy.
