I work for a nonprofit, independent think tank based in Los Angeles. Throughout the year, we host international conferences in the United States, Asia, the Middle East, and other regions, inviting global leaders to work toward solving global challenges.
In the master's program, I majored in civil law and specialized in competition law (economic law) under the guidance of Professor Jiro Tamura. I was particularly interested in researching the relationship between US competition law and intellectual property law, so I also studied abroad for a year while in graduate school.
My study abroad destination, the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, is highly regarded in the field of intellectual property, so I had a very meaningful time there. Under a professor of patent law, I researched the latest case law and wrote a paper during my studies. After completing law school, I also took the bar exam and obtained my license to practice law in New York State, allowing me to take on many challenges. Leveraging my experience in the United States, I deepened my understanding of competition law in both Japan and the US after returning home. By studying the activities and regulations of competition authorities in various countries, I was also able to clarify the locus of the issues.
The appeal of this graduate school is the ability to challenge oneself and conduct research on a variety of subjects without setting personal limits. Many problems in the world still need to be solved, both within and outside one's field of research. In this graduate school, I was able to learn how to solve and tackle these problems and how to play an active role in society.
