Collaboration between Nursing and Care Staff in Elderly Care Facilities to Detect Changes in Residents' Health Conditions: A Press Release on Research by a Graduate of the Graduate School of Health Management

A research group led by Hirofumi Okawara, a graduate of the Ph.D. program at the Graduate School of Health Management (currently an assistant professor at the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Human Sciences, Sophia University), in a collaborative study with Professor Hiroki Fukahori and Assistant Professor Yuriko Mashida of the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care at Keio University, Associate Professor Sachiko Matsumoto of the Saitama Campus of the Japanese Red Cross College of Nursing, Lecturer Katsumi Nasu of the Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences at Hiroshima University, and Professor Ardith Z. Doorenbos of the College of Nursing at the University of Illinois Chicago, conducted interviews with 23 nursing professionals working in elderly care facilities in Japan. The study clarified the role of nursing staff (nursing practices) in the early detection of changes in residents' health conditions. The results of this study were published in the February 2025 issue of the International Journal of Older People Nursing, a specialized journal in geriatric nursing.
