A co-authored paper by Mayumi Oka, a project associate professor at this graduate school (and a project associate professor at The Institute of Statistical Mathematics), titled "Understanding the Characteristics of Urban Spatial Structure Using an Alley Estimation Method," has received the President's Award for Excellent Technical Paper for fiscal year 2019 from the Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Japan Association of Surveying and Mapping Technology.

This research originated from a study Ms. Oka began while she was a student at this graduate school, where she focused on the significance of alleys in local communities. This research has also been featured in the Science Report of the Research Organization of Information and Systems (ROIS).
