Introduction to Field

In the field of adult nursing, we explore theories and concepts and investigate research methods aimed at maintaining or adjusting optimal health status for adults and the elderly with chronic or long-term diseases or disabilities - including stroke, diabetes, heart disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - as well as their families.

Researchers can engage in diverse studies that include exploring research topics aligned with rapidly changing clinical contexts and patient needs, investigating phenomena in nursing and developing new nursing practices. We will place great importance on the individual research interests of post-graduate students and linking clinical questions to research topics in order to advance their studies. We aim to cultivate persons capable of undertaking research, practice and education in pursuit of higher-quality nursing.

Given the broad scope of the adult nursing field in terms of patient populations and diseases, we will place importance on the specialties and needs of post-graduate students as we learn together.

Regarding research on chronic diseases, we undertake studies on diet and exercise for cancer patients (cancer survivors) with cardiovascular disorders associated with cancer treatment, as well as diverse other studies concerning elderly cancer patients undergoing cancer drug therapy. Leveraging the strengths of being a comprehensive university, our graduate school collaborates with researchers from other faculties to pioneer longitudinal studies on walking and falls among community-dwelling elderly individuals, research on the super-aged and supercentenarians, and device-based research.

We also engage in research to develop educational programs where healthcare professionals learn about decision-making support, as well as developing methods for systematically creating tools that can be utilized for this purpose. In addition to cancer care-related studies, we are currently working on the development of a decision support tool for patients with severe heart failure.
