The four fields of Faculty of Business and Commerce are explained as follows. The field of business administration involves research into the management and operational activities of entities such as corporations and non-profit organizations. The field of commerce explores marketing and various for-profit activities. The field of economics and industry provides an understanding of society's overall economic activities. In the field of accounting, students learn to measure, record, and evaluate economic activities from a monetary perspective.

The core academic disciplines of the Faculty of Business and Commerce comprise four major fields: Management and Organization, Marketing Science, Accounting, and Economy and Industry. While cultivating expertise centered around these fields, students can independently and individually select majors and courses aligned with their intellectual interests and career aspirations. Additionally, programs are offered to enable systematic study of cross-disciplinary issues beyond field boundaries, including global studies, strategies, policies and regulations, empirical analysis methods, and histories of theories and practices.

Spirit of Jitsugaku

The spirit of jitsugaku, or “practical learning,” refers to the process by which an independent individual acquires the necessary knowledge to think on their own and apply that knowledge in society in a meaningful way. The School of Commerce offers a unique lineup of classes that embody and develop this spirit of jitsugaku.

Learning While Teaching, Teaching While Learning

Referred to in Japanese as hangaku hankyo, this is an egalitarian system in which students and teachers learn from one another through discussion. Students can get a better sense of this in the General Education Seminar in students’ first and second years and in the seminars in the third year onward.
