Research Overview

My research focuses on monetary and banking theory, using microeconomics (particularly game theory). My research has focused on three main themes. The first concerns the impact of the soft budget constraint problem in banks on monetary policy and economic fluctuations. The second examines the impact of coordination failures among creditors on the financial system using global games. The third explores the nature of optimal currency areas, based on the function of money as a unit of account. Recently, I have been investigating the mechanisms underlying financial crises caused by asset commonality among banks.
