Research Overview
Mainly on the Ritsuryo Code system, I am interested in relations with the state and the society of Nara and Heian era. My research focuses on comparing the Japanese legal system with the Chinese legal system, which served as its mother law, and on the process by which the legal system inherited from China became established in Japan. I study this from the perspectives of capital city construction, the system of officials, and local history, particularly in the Tohoku region.
