Research Overview
To understand living cells as a system, conventional top-down approaches such as molecular biology and biophysics should be compensated by bottom-up approaches that construct higher-order systems by using defined elements. By using artificial cells and reconstituted biochemical systems as bottom-up materials, we are challenging to elucidate the blueprint of life and create yet another material that transcends living systems.
