Research Overview

We have been investigating the causes and predisposing factors of sudden death among young people in Southeast Asia, known as 'Lai-Tai' (corresponding to 'Pokkuri disease' in Japan), through field surveys, genetic analyses, and epidemiological comparative studies. Furthermore, with the aim of developing more objective forensic diagnostic methods, we are advancing our research into estimating survival time after injury, the height of fatal falls and molecular genetic analyses of stomach contents. These analyses are providing clues for determining the time and circumstances of incidents and accidents. Additionally, we have identified issues and proposed improvements relating to determining causes of death, preventing accidents and avoiding disputes in cases of medical accidents.
