Research Overview

Focusing on “space” as a key perspective, I examine socioeconomic issues faced by real-world cities and regions. My research utilizes geographic information systems (GIS) and geospatial information, combined with econometric and statistical methods. In recent years, I have also been focusing on GeoAI, which integrates geospatial information and AI. Ongoing advancements in GIS technologies, geospatial information, and AI have been improving our ability to understand spatial challenges in urban and regional contexts in greater detail and with greater sophistication. Many issues in fields such as healthcare, the environment, transportation, urban development, welfare, logistics, real estate, and disaster prevention are closely related to the spatial structure of cities and regions. By utilizing GIS, geospatial information, and GeoAI, I aim to deepen our understanding of these issues and provide useful insights toward their resolution. In addition, I have long been engaged in the development of GIS teaching materials and GIS education. Through both the publication of GIS books, such as the Introduction to GIS for Economic and Policy Analysis series, and my teaching and seminar activities, I work to foster professionals who can utilize spatial data and GIS.
