Research Overview
I study American literature from the nineteenth century to the present, with a particular interest in works by nineteenth-century women writers. I am also deeply interested in works—by both women and men—that explore issues of gender and sexuality, as well as the experiences of people living on the social margins. In addition, I examine how American culture has influenced Japanese girls’ culture since the Meiji period.
