Lecture Outline

During the era in which Yukichi Fukuzawa lived, the sake brewing industry had the highest production value among all industries in Japan. It is natural that Fukuzawa would turn his attention to such an industry when considering his vision for the national economy, and he mentioned the sake brewing industry in various writings. This lecture will explore how Fukuzawa viewed Japan's traditional industries amidst the rapid growth of modern industries.
