In April 2019, "Keio University Mita Open College" will begin. For the purpose of lifelong learning and recurrent education, 13 courses in the spring semester and 11 courses in the fall semester will be held at the Mita Campus (see the left page). These courses consist of lecture formats (50–80 participants) and seminar formats (10–20 participants). Each course will be held eight times on Saturdays.

Mita Campus is often described as being "like a miniature garden." Due to its limited space, it is usually overflowing with Keio students. However, if you visit this campus on weekends or during long holidays, you will encounter a completely different landscape. The buildings are arranged in an orderly fashion, and the weight of history can be fully felt. In this land of Mita, and on Saturdays, courses for lifelong learning and recurrent education will be held, following undergraduate and graduate education.

Keio University already has a Correspondence Education Program. It was established in 1948, over 70 years ago, and more than 8,000 Keio students are currently enrolled. In addition, there is the "Fukuzawa Bunmeijuku," the "Keio Marunouchi City Campus (Keio MCC)" operated by Keio Academic Enterprise, and various public lectures held at different campuses (of these, "Fukuzawa Bunmeijuku" will end in March 2019, but its courses are being integrated into this college). Keio University has a long history and many achievements regarding lifelong learning and recurrent education.

Amidst this, the Keio University Mita Open College will add a new page. "I want to return to my student days once more," "I want to challenge myself with a field of study I don't know," "I want to open a book as my curiosity leads me," "I want to meet new friends"—any motivation is fine. For Keio University alumni who feel nostalgic for the campus but have few opportunities to visit, it will be an excellent chance to shorten the distance with Keio. Eligibility for the courses is, of course, open to those other than Keio University alumni as well.

In the age of the internet, information can be obtained easily. However, sharing a place and space, confirming each other's expressions, listening directly to the instructor's voice, asking questions, and debating with other students should not be a bad thing. Rather, this is precisely where the starting point of education lies. The keywords for communication are access and participation. Please access this Mita Open College and actively participate in the lectures and seminars. The threshold is by no means high. Please invite old friends, bring your families, and come to Mita.
